Crow Fully Quilled Hide Dispatch Bag c. 1890
The lot features a quilled hide dispatch bag from the Crow Native American Indians and dates to circa 1890’s. The bag shows a Indian brain tanned buckskin construction with beautiful porcupine quilled geometric top in dyes of pink, natural, purple and red having a stepped cross like storm pattern with striped border. The original tie straps are still attached, and the back side has two old hand sewn stitches that are not repairs but rather indicative of the pouch being made of a recycled section of legging or war shirt. The piece is in good condition with a very minor quill loss. The outside edge of the bag shows a fancy beaded border in all early period correct glass trade seed beads. The piece shows a row of hand cut fringe at the base. Measures 16”L by 8”W.
