Crow Beaded Rifle Scabbard Mid to Late 19th C.
This is an exceptional wonderfully beaded rifle scabbard from the Crow Native American Indians. The piece dates to the mid to late 19th Century and shows an Indian tanned hide construction with beaded accents. The scabbard shows a very unique and rare end accented piece and shows two flaps of old red and blue trade clothe in a unique pattern showing a fancy beaded edge in semi-transparent with beadwork of chalk white, black, semi-transparent sky padre blue, and greasy yellow. The center and top edge also show matching red and blue old trade clothe with early glass trade seed beadwork in a floral like pattern. The piece is in very well preserved condition with little bead loss and some fringe loss at the top due to age and use. The piece is from the A. Horvey Private Native American Artifact Collection in Billings, Montana and has been found to be an excellent authentic piece. The piece is believed to fit a Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle, Henry Lever Action 1860's Rifle, or an early trade percussion musket. When a lever rifle was inserted into the scabbard the trigger guard and lever seamed to fit nearly perfect. The piece measures overall 43"L x 7.75"W. This truly an exceptional authentic rifle scabbard and is the finest currently available for sale.
