The lot features an excellent beaded feather headdress with feather trailer from the Crow Native American Indians of Montana from the mid-to-late 20th Century. The headdress shows large turkey feathers with bright yellow plume feather tips and red dyed horse hear fringe flowing down to the red stroud trade clothe wrapped ends with glass trade beadwork along the front feather section further accented by the Indian tanned hide beaded brow band and beaded rosette medallions all done in glass trade seed and pony beads in a geometric pattern. The beadwork shows a chalk white background with greasy sky padre blue, red, amber, black, and royal blue. Below the beaded medallions shows a dropping of nine white ermine furs. The bonnet itself is a dark purple wool trade clothe with white and black plume feathers adorning the outside and top. The trailer consists a trade clothe white and red runner with double row of large turkey feathers having a red stroud trade clothe wrapping and same matched yellow plume feather, white plume feather and red dyed horsehair accents. This is truly a fine vintage set showing nice condition and presentation, likely directly from the Crow Reservation in Montana. The headdress war bonnet itself is approximately 44” long from top of feathers to bottom of ermine hides and the runner is 62” long itself. The Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana.
