Crisp 1864 Lincoln & Johnson Silk Ribbon Crisp, Nearly Pristine 1864 Lincoln & Johnson Silk Campaign
Crisp, Nearly Pristine 1864 Lincoln & Johnson Silk Campaign Ribbon. This gem from the Joe Brown Collection has terrific appeal. The condition and bright red color of the silk make it an impressive item for display, and 1864 Lincoln ribbons, with Johnson running for vice-president, are considerably scarcer than those of 1860, when Hannibal Hamlin was his running mate. (We have often theorized that wartime austerity was responsible for the drop in number of varieties and total items produced from 1860 to 1864.) For strictest accuracy, we must mention a trivial small edge stain mark and a couple of tiny, less than 1/8" irregularities at the bottom edge. The fine creases from folding are endemic to ribbons of this type, and are considered insignificant; but if one feels the need, a good cloth restorer can usually largely mitigate them. 2" x 7.4" in size.
