Crimean War Signature Lot Featuring Heroes
Crimean War Signature Lot Featuring Heroes of the Light and Heavy Brigades. A lot of four signature of British military officers who served with distinction in the Crimean War (1853-1856) and especially at what has become known as the Charge of the Heavy Brigade. The charge led by Sir James Yorke Scarlett during the Battle of Balaclava on October 25, 1854. It proved to be more successful than the more celebrated Charge of the Light Brigade, which happened on the same day. Included in the group is a clipped portion of the address leaf of an autograph letter written by Lord Cardigan, leader of the Charge of the Light Brigade; a two page letter signed “J. Yorke Scarlett”, who lead the charge of the heavy brigade, mounted to a backing board with a yellowed copy of Tennyson’s poem The Charge of the Heavy Brigade; a two page autograph letter dated February 11, 1875 written by the Prince George, Duke of Cambridge and signed “George”, mounted with an engraved portrait of the Duke in full military regalia; and a one page autograph letter dated January 12, 1855, from Lord Raglan (FitzRoy Somerset), signed “Raglan”, mounted to a larger backing mat. All items are in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
