An iconic and well known image, but strangely very few original copies are known to exist. As far as we know, this is only the 4th original of this photograph to be accounted for. The wonderful image of a group of cowboys galloping to dinner has been noted as the one of the great images of the west. This copy was said to have come directly off the ranch where it was taken, and it remains in the original frame it hung with. Written in ink on the back, in what is believed was the photographer's handwriting, is: "Hip Hip hurrah off for dinner / Taken at noon May 26' 1890 South / of Raton NM".

4 3/4" x 7 3/4" and mounted on light card and paper. Framed to 11 3/8" x 13 3/8". Stain on the reverse of the card from where a paper clip was once attached.

"A copy in the University of New Mexico collection lists this as a boudoir card with the title "Cowboys Going to Dinner", Mora County near Wagon Mound, New Mexico… Other sources attribute this photograph taken on the Angus VV Ranch on Little Creek near Fort Stanton and Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1889" -- Palace of the Governors Photo Archives, New Mexico History Museum.

Provenance: Rex Arrowsmith Collection directly to the present owner, circa 1985.
