Cow Bell, Hobbles & Cow ID Collars
In this lot we offer for your consideration a vintage cow bell, hobbles & cow ID collars The bell is on a leather strap collar. The bell is 6" tall by 13" around and has a clapper intact. The leather strap/Collar is 1 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick and 38" long. The collar is made of two pieces held with three rivets in the center. These types of bells were used not only on cows but also on mules and horses. This type of bell was used on the homesteads lone milk cow so she could wander and graze and still be kept tabs on. The bell has a nice deep ring. The vintage hobbles are made with leather cuffs that are 1/4" thick 3" wide and 23" long. The cuffs are attached to each other with a D-Ring a 2" link and a swivel in the middle. the distance between the hobbles is 11". Horse hobble served a similar purpose as the cow bell, they allowed a horse to graze in the open where there was no pen or way to tie and yet kept them in the area. The last item in the lot is two chain cow collars with id tags. These types of collars were used mostly on dairy cattle to allow the rancher to keep track of each cows health and production. With the invention of electronic collars and microchip for identification the Id collars are an relic of days gone by. The collars are made of a large split ring with 40" of chain and a tag attached. The tags bear numbers and can be color coded to indicate the year a cow was born. One collar has a metal tag with the #151 and plastic coating on it and the other collar has a plastic tag with the #90 on it.
