Note:  Covers from Sandwa and Bidasar, two places in Bikaner Rajputana State, are difficult to find and missing in advanced collections. For official documents and correspondence, intaglio seals were commonly used in India during the 1840s. Intaglio seals are engraved or etched designs that are incised or carved into materials such as metal or stone. Seals such as these were then used to authenticate or validate documents by impressing the design onto wax or other sealing materials.
