Width 4 ¼ in.

Following in its overall design the standard "displayed" convention, this bird-form pendant has several distinctive elements as well. The infrequently-seen knobbed caruncle on its beak probably indicates that it is a vulture. Also distinctive are the inclusion of the opposed rear talon and the unusually prominent eyes. A low relief braid bordered by bands is along the lower edge of each wing. The back shows several changes or corrections to the wax original made during the modeling process. Where the surface-gilding remains, it is unusually bright. In addition to loss at the outer upper edge of the proper left wing, there are both black corrosion areas and green oxidation deposits.

Provenance
Charles Craig, Santa Barbara
