Partly-printed DS, endorsed on an attached slip, “C. V.,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 10.5 x 16.5, November 10, 1869. Document reads, in part: “This Indenture…Between The New York and Harlem Railroad Company party of the first part and Peter Goelet, Jean B. Goelet, Hannah Greene Gerry and Robert Goelet parties of the second part:…That [The New York and Harlem Railroad Company]…hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents, Doth grant, bargain, sell…unto [Peter Goelet, Jean B. Goelet, Hannah Greene Gerry and Robert Goelet] and to their heirs and assigns for ever, All that certain block piece or parcel of land situate, lying, and being in the Nineteenth Ward of the City of New York, and Bounded as follows, Northerly by Forty seventh Street, Southerly by Forty sixth Street, Easterly by the Fourth Avenue, and Westerly by Madison Avenue ….” Attached with string at top left is the ANS signed “CV” by Cornelius Vanderbilt to his son-in-law, on an off-white 5 x 2.75 slip. In full: “Mr Nevin Please Extend Mr Golets [sic] mortgage for a year from 10 November 1874.” Larger document rates in very good condition, with intersecting folds to document, a few small separations, scattered toning and soiling, and professional reinforcement to folds on second page. Vanderbilt’s note rates fine, with a bisecting vertical fold and mild toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
