Technical Expert's Report: Prof. Dr. Franz Mairinger, head of the 'Institut für Farbenchemie' at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, 4. September 1989:".. material and method are in accordance with the signature - which has remained almost entirely untouched - and with the dating of other works by Dusart") Dusart lived in Haarlem and never married. He appears to have joined the studio of Adriaen Ostades in ca. 1675 becoming his student. In 1679 Dusart was accepted into the Haarlem guild which presupposes the completion of his apprenticeship. Trautscholdt writes: "Dusart was able to rapidly refine his art to such a degree that his art compared favourably with the paintings of his mentor". The present painting originates in this period of "delicately rendered sunlight and a surprisingly refined colour scheme."
