Copy of Smith & Wesson M13 Revolver with U.S.A.F. Aircrewman's Markings and Original Leather Holster

This is a representative example of a late 1950s S&W M13 aircrewman style revolver. Original examples are extremely rare (writer believes this example is not one of these) with only a few ever having escaped being destroyed by either Smith and Wesson of the U.S. Government. They are discussed and illustrated on page 106 of "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Supica and Nahas. The top strap of this revolver is marked "REVOLVER, LIGHT WEIGHT, M13" with "PROPERTY OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE" on the back strap. The barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON" and "38 SPL. CTG." on the left and right side respectively. The right side of the frame has the standard S&W patent markings and monogram. The left side of the frame below the cylinder has a small "P" firing proof. The butt is stamped with the full serial number "C259874" with the matching serial number "259874" on the back of the cylinder and underside of the barrel. The frame recess and back side of the cylinder crane are also both stamped with assembly number "5973". This revolver features an anodized alloy frame and cylinder and a blue steel barrel with a casehardened hammer and trigger. Upon close examination of the revolver it is very close to an original, however it has the following deficiencies: the top strap markings are very close to the originals however they incorrect spacing between the words and have the incorrect style of lettering. It also lacks the proper "A.F.N.O./serial number" on the butt and the grips lack the special USAF medallions found on original Aircrewman revolvers. The revolver is complete with an original U.S.A.F.black leather flap holster with a nylon lanyard. The holster is embossed on the front flap with "U.S.A.F." and the front edge of the holster is also stamped "55D3513".

Very fine as remarked/refurbished with 95% of the black anodized finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The barrel retains 98% of its blue finish with edge wear on the muzzle. The grips are excellent with nice original sharp checkering on both sides. The holster is also excellent with 98% of the black leather color overall with nice tight stitching. If you can not find an original example of this rare revolver this example would be a possible choice for a S&W or martial pistol collection.
