Copperopolis,CA - Feb. 7, 1864 - California Gold Mining Letter :
Handwritten on folded sheet. Script tight and legible. Discusses the broken down equipment of the Keystone Co. Mentions that the "crushing apparatus won’t be in working order for 2-3 mo. Principle owner of another mine (No. 7) has been "killed in the shaft by a blast." Also states that No. 2, "the celebrated Union Co. (is the) richest mine in the world yet developed…the owners make $2000 per foot for any number of feet as they will not sell an inch of it." Seemingly fettered by the difficulty of his situation, the writer states: "As soon as I can raise the money I shall bid goodbye to California as I am tired out with striving to make a fortune…" Fine with fold creases. 11" x 8.25".
