Performed under the Direction of Captains Cook, Clerke, and Gore for His Majesty's Ships the Resolution, and Discovery, In the Years, 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779, and 1780. Written by James Cook (Vols I + II), and Captain J. King (Vol III). First Edition LONDON: Strahan & Nicol, 1784. Accompanying the account of the third voyage is a handsome atlas similarly bound. (22.25" x 16.5"), containing 2 large folding maps and 61 handsome plates. All Maps and Plates appear to be Present. All eight text volumes are likewise paginated complete. The account of the first voyage is a Second Edition (se Notyes above), while the accounts of second and third voyages are both First Editions. This is a very handsome set. Not just a Cornerstone but the veritable Foundation of any library or collection concerning exploration, and an important document in the development of mankind and civilization in general. Collectively Very Good++ to Near Fine with the most wear showing to the very Large Atlas.
