Continental Currency April 11, 1778 $6 Choice About New. No counterfeits of this denomination are listed in Newman. This piece is very well margined, and it is separated from the Choice New grade by a single light vertical center fold. This note is, in our opinion, a counterfeit. In May of 1993, we sold a $6 that had been canceled with a penned "X" across the face to indicate that it was a counterfeit, and discovered in circulation. The characteristics of that note match this one quite closely. In particular, the period at the end of the motto is spaced much farther from the "O" than on genuine $6 examples. In any case, this is a very attractive $6 Yorktown, and with the exception of the $40 note, genuines and counterfeits have been realizing almost identical prices at auction.
