If anyone can be called a "founding father" of the United States, Jay certainly qualifies. He served in the First and Second Continental Congress and served as president of that body from 1778 to 1779. He was then instrumental in the peace process after the Revolutionary War, helping to fashion American foreign policy in Europe. He co-wrote the <I>Federalist Papers</B></I> with Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. He was the first, as well as the youngest, Chief Justice of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1794.
