The Continental Congress was formed in 1774 as a coordinated response by several American colonies to the Intolerable Acts and quickly became the governing body of the military alliance as the dispute with Britain escalated into the American Revolutionary War. After the war, it existed as the governing body of the United States until the government of the Constitution became operative in 1789. Included in this fine grouping of early American statesmen are: <B>John Lansing Jr.</B></I> (ADS); <B>Thomas T.
