Continental Army Commodity Bond. Listed in The Price of Liberty by Anderson as MA-22, dated January 1, 1780. These were issued to Continental Army soldiers to cover their depreciation of the pay that occurred during their time of service. These tied the value of the money to actual commodities, i.e. five bushels of corn, 68 4/7 lbs. of beef, 16 lbs. of sole leather, etc. Fully Extremely Fine and boldly signed by Gardner as Treasurer and Cranch and Dawes as Committee. Unusually high grade for this fascinating item, we can recall only one finer in our many, many years of dealing. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
