Constitution Signer William Paterson, a rare partly-printed Document Signed "Wm. Paterson" as Governor. One page with a three-page attachment, 13" x 8.5", Burlington, February 2, 1792 approving the appointment of William Griffith as surrogate for the estate of John Wilkins of Burlington, New Jersey. Attached is a manuscript copy of Wilkins' last will and testament. During the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, it was Paterson (1745-1806) who had proposed the "New Jersey Plan" which advocated a unicameral legislature with equal representation from each state. This would become the model for the Senate after the Great Compromise which created two legislative bodies, one which represented the states as equals and a lower house which represented the people in districts based on population. usual folds, a few minor holes and marginal folds and chips, else very bright and dark with a fine example of Paterson's signature.
