This is an original pair of pickup man chaps from the Cody (Wyoming) Stampede in the 1920's. The chaps were made by Connolly Brothers in Billings, Montana. The Cody Stampede began its annual tradition in 1919 as a celebration of Buffalo Bill's legacy. These chaps show the maker's mark of Connolly Bros. The mark was used by the saddlery company from 1919-1928. It is believed these chaps were first used in the early years of the Stampede and possibly a custom order by Clarence Williams the creator of the Cody Stampede. The chaps could have been used the in the Stampede's first year, 1919. They show extensive hand tooled leather with rawhide stitching. Each side shows shadowbox cutout lettering that reads "Cody Stampede". An important historical Wyoming Rodeo piece. The chaps are in good overall condition for their age. Measure:
