Typed letter on American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia letterhead, Sept. 28, 1948. Addressed to Mr. Gordon Berryhill in London, Ontario. References players Groth, Frank Adams, Joe Black, and Don Cooper. "Our baseball season will close this coming Sunday, and I feel that our club did a very good job in attaining fourth position in our League." Signed by Connie Mack. Letter was trimmed and adhered to an album page. Mack was a professional baseball catcher, manager, and team owner. The longest-serving manager in Major League Baseball history, he holds untouchable records for wins (3,731), losses (3,948), and games managed (7,755). Mack managed the Philadelphia Athletics for the club's first 50 seasons of play, starting in 1901, before retiring at age 87 following the 1950 season, and was at least part-owner from 1901 to 1954. He was the first manager to win the World Series three times, and he is the only manager to win consecutive Series on separate occasions. Mack was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
