<B>1841-1846 Connecticut Militia Orderly Book and Mexican War Letters.</B></I> This book contains information from the years 1841 through 1846 and provides remarkable details on the regiment's status. It is compromised of 69 handwritten pages and is accompanied by three signed legal documents, a pamphlet with excerpts from the Bible, one signed retailers license, three receipts, and 10 signed documents. The Orderly book is a detailed log of everything that occurred in this regiment from September 3, 1841 to September 24, 1846 in various places in Connecticut such as: Killingly, Thompson, Lebanon, and Woodstock. The book begins with a list of all the soldiers in the regiment and their respective rankings. The book also describes orders that the regiment received from high-ranking officers: "<I>Sir, in consequence of the discharge of Captain Amos Ross (April 11 1842), you are hereby ordered to give legal notice to all members of the 6th Company 11th Regimentyou will lead the said company to the choice of a Captain and fill all vacancies that may arise in consequence of such choices and returns made of this order with your doings endorsed here-on to the next General Assembly be holden at New Haven in May next</B></I>". <BR><BR>The Mexican War between the United States and Mexico began with a Mexican attack on American troops along the southern border of Texas on April 25, 1846. Fighting ended when General Winfield Scott occupied Mexico City on September 14, 1847; a few months later a peace treaty was signed at Guadalupe Hidalgo. In addition to recognizing the U.S. annexation of Texas, defeated Mexico ceded California and New Mexico to the United States. This book offers an impeccable example of the organization of the United States Army during the Mexican War.
