1897 pattern infantry officer's sword made by Wilkinson with attractive etched detail on the blade including Connaught Rangers crest and battle honours of the regiment. Numbered “34507” attributable to Richard Waddy Hart born circa 1856 in the Parish of Finvay, near Ballymoney, Co. Antrim. He enlisted in June 1879, served in India for over 11 years and was promoted to Colour-Sergeant in 1896. He saw service in South Africa, including the operations near Vaal Kranz in February 1900. He returned Home in January 1901, and for his services in South Africa he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, being discharged the following April.
