Connaught Rangers infantry officer's sword of Captain Reginald Valentine Burke



1897 pattern infantry officer's sword made by Wilkinson with etched detail on the blade including family crest and motto of the Burke family. Numbered “42985” attributable to Reginald Valentine Burke, born Poona India on the 14th of February 1891, entered the Royal Military College Sandhurst February 1910 after which he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Connaught Rangers. He served with the regiment during the First World War while also being attached to the West African Field Force. He rose to the rank of Major by 1917 and was also awarded a bronze Royal Humane Society Medal
