Confederate issue Rigdon & Ansley, .36 caliber Navy size percussion revolver remaining in very good plus to near fine original condition, serial number 2091. The barrel is stamped” C S A” and shows all matching serial numbers and crypticmarks on the interior frame and the letter “J” in front of the trigger guard bow. There are semicircular milling grooves beneath both recoil shields which are original production marks. There is a deep groove in the right bottom recoilshield which is probably also in the original manufacture. The metal surfaces show some original color from being hardened when made. The metal shows some flaws and striations which is desirable on Confederate pistols. The grips are as fine ascan be found on Confederate revolvers and show a rich natural color with just some small losses at toes and minor wear. The metal surfaces show some dings, mars and minor aging. The action is tight and works well. This Rigdon & Ansley is sharp andcrisp overall. An exceptional original example. Pictured on page 18, 24, 25 and 27 of William A. Gary’s book “Confederate Revolvers” further provonance begins in 1951 when it is pictured in an article “Confederate Handguns” by William A.
