Confederate issue Griswold & Gunnison period assembled Navy size percussion revolver in .36 caliber with associated Colt Navy barrel, cylinder and loading lever, serial number 776. An inventory card from the William A. Gary collection states “I believe this revolver came from the factory with these Colt parts”. Mr. Gary felt that Confederate armorers salvaged good parts from battlefields and carried them back to manufacturing plants where they were married toproduction revolvers. The original inventory card is included with this lot. The Colt parts are numbered 95029 or 5029. The barrel, cylinder, lever and hammer show a matching patina with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprickpitting. The frame shows some dings with a deep and pleasing patina. The grips are good with small losses and normal aging. The wedge screw is missing and the wedge and spring are replaced. The action is not quite working properly. Theinterior shows cryptic letter “O” and roman numerals. listed in William A. Albaugh’s book published in 1955 and also “Confederate Handguns” 1963.
