United States parole document signed by Confederate soldier L.N. Cole of the 8th Alabama Cavalry. Document #631 dated 14 May 1865 reads in part, ''I, the undersigned, Prisoner of War, belonging to the Army of the Department of Alabama, Mississippi and East Louisiana…do hereby give my solemn parole of honor, that I will not hereafter serve in the Armies of the Confederate States or in any military capacity whatever, against the United States of America…'' 7.5'' x 9.5'' document heavily restored but still very presentable and legible.
