Confederate General Jubal A. Early Signature Confederate General Jubal Anderson Early Signature
Confederate General Jubal Anderson Early Signature "J. A. Early Lynchburg, Virginia" on a 3.75" x 1.75" sheet laid down to a heavy card. Born in Virginia, Early served in the Seminole Wars and then in the Mexican War, practicing law in the interim. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in the army as a colonel, later rising to the rank of lieutenant general. After the war, he traveled first to Texas, then Mexico, Cuba, and Canada. He refused to take the oath of allegiance to the United States but was pardoned in 1868 by President Johnson. He is considered to be one of the most able of all rebel generals and certainly one of the scarcer autographs. Very good condition with soiling and staining. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
