Confederate D guard Bowie knife stamped “CS” near rear portion of the blade on the right side near the hilt. The blade measures 12 ¼” and the knife is 17 and nearly ¾” overall. The right grip is carved with the initials R. B. With a small Gcarved in the center. The inventory card from Bill Gary collection indicates this knife was carried during the Civil War by J. R. Bass private in 2nd Alabama Cavalry. J.R. Bass was Mr. Gary’s great-grandfather. “The knife was given to me when I was a young boy by Mrs. H.R. Royce” and he traces the dissent directly to Bass. The blade shows a clip point with a re-curved tip and is in good condition showing some light to heavy scattered pitting. The guard shows similar lightto heavy pitting and matching patina. The grips are simple hard wood also with a good patina on the grip pins. No doubt to the authenticity as it has never been out of the Gary and Bass family. The William A. Gary collection consigned by hisestate with original inventory card included which is signed by Bill Gary. Est.:$2500-$5000
