<B>Confederate Brigadier General Marcus J. Wright Autograph Letter Signed.</B></I> One page, 5" x 8", War Department War Records Office letterhead, Washington, April 8, 1897, to (Union Brigadier) General James Grant Wilson. In part: "<I>...I wish to acknowledge with many thanks, receipt of your life of Genl. Grant...Do you personally know Gen Alger, Scty of War?</B></I>" He is speaking of Wilson's book, <I>Life of General Grant,</B></I> published in 1897. Wright was wounded at Shiloh and later fought at Chickamauga and Atlanta. Later he worked for the War Department in compiling the war's official records. Fine condition, one repaired tear at left margin; clear dark writing.
