Confederate Bowie Knife, leather scabbard and belt, with 11.25'' long clip-point blade, cast brass guard, beautiful smooth walnut grip, brass pommel ring, cup style leather scabbard, and old leather belt with iron roller buckle. Blade is approx. 1.25'' wide at ricasso and still very sharp. The ''T''-shaped brass guard is somewhat crudely sand cast. The walnut grip has a swell in the grip to fit your hand, and flares out at the top. Handle is retained by a thick brass ring with the tang peened at the top; sides of the handle show worn lightly engraved lines resembling a star and stamped date of ''1861''. Overall length is 16.5''. Condition is very good, the blade showing age graying overall, some light pitting, and a few minor edge nicks. There are some remnants of gold paint in the ricasso area. No markings on the blade itself. Guard has a nice dark patina to the brass. Wood grip shows age and drying cracks, with a nice smooth patina to the wood. Brass ring at top of grip shows a nice original dark patina and untouched tang peen. Leather scabbard is quite large and knife fits very loosely. There is some loose stitching for the first inch or so from the mouth opening. Body of the scabbard shows age, scuffs, and scratches. Belt shows age, scuffs, and scratches to the leather, and a dark patina to the iron buckle. Est.: $1,500-$2,000.
