c1890-1900 - High-grade Gold & Silver ore specimens from the Comstock mines. These were collected by James Quirk, a miner and Sheriff in Virginia City in the late 1890s. The various samples were found in an old wooden nail keg at the Quirk residence, and discovered about 1940 by Amadeo Gavazzi. Quirk`s widow Katie gave them to Gavazzi. Katie Quirk was a teacher at the First Ward School in Virginia City, and later at the now famous Fourth Ward School, a museum today. Amadeo was a student of Mrs. Quirk in 1927 in the first grade. -61037
