The fluted comb Maximilian style close helmet was constructed using welds. The Almain rivet collar is late 16th century. The anime breast plate has 9 lames. The Italian anime back plate is mid 17th century, has 11 lames and is in the style of Caremolo Madrone of Mantua. The top and bottom lame of the back plate have an embossed floral design and there is etched designs around the outside edge. The gorget is an Almain rivet collar from the 16th century. The pauldrons have a decorative cut edge on the top of the lames. The pauldrons and arm defenses are a mixture of Victorian and later elements. The cod piece is an addition. The greaves and sabatons are later manufacture and would not have been worn originally. The rondels are later manufacture. The 8 lame tassets are German circa 1560 with an embossed "AA" cipher on the bottom lame and are from the Royal bodyguard unit for Anne and August Elector of Saxony. The 9 3/4 foot long polearm is late 19th century. Harness stands 73 inches tall x 27 inches wide x 17 inches deep without the spear. With a black painted wooden base that measures 13 inches tall x 19 inches wide x 18 1/2 inches deep. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Good, there is scattered minor pitting overall with some areas of heavier pitting. The tassets are very good. The backplate is fair with two replacement lames and some scattered minor holes and pitting. The gorget is missing the lames and has a replacement collar. There are some later components that have been added to the harness. The replacement elements are very good with some scattered minor pitting. There are some minor dings and dents overall. There are several different types and ages of leather straps. The wooden base is good with some flaking and cracking of the paint and minor wear overall.
