Composite 19th Century Style American Kentucky Percussion Long Rifle, NVSN, .40 cal., 35.75'' pinned octagonal barrel with dovetailed open sights, marked ''J. Clippinger'' in script on top flat; flat lockplate marked ''Ford Brothers'' has floral engraving and a wildfowl scene at rear, percussion bolster with cleanout screw; brass furniture includes fancy scrolled trigger guard with rear finger-rest, crescent buttplate, sideplate, nosecap and three ferrules retaining the plain hardwood ramrod; varnished highly-figured maple fullstock has raised panels at either side of lock. Double set triggers. Barrel, lock, triggers and most furniture appear to be antique; the barrel tang, percussion bolster, stock and ramrod are modern. Condition is good to very good as assembled, the barrel with a smooth dark age patina, the lock and hammer gunmetal gray, brass with light patina. Stock is sound and smooth having hairline cracks on both sides at middle ferrule, nice grain, color and finish. Action is defective; bore is generally bright with deep spiral rifling.
