Composer Jerome Kern TLS
Composer Jerome Kern Typed Letter Signed “Jerome Kern”. One page, 8.5” x 11”, on his personal letterhead, July 11, 1942, to Robley D. Stevens, Baltimore, Maryland. The venerable composer of popular American music complies with a request for an autograph but suggests a patriotic way in which the recipient might do his part for the war effort. He writes in part: “Replying to a goodly few well-meant people who think they want my autograph, I make it a practice invariably, of complying only when the requester submits proof of a contribution to the Army and Navy Relief Funds of at least one dollar.” Jerome Kern (1885-1945) penned over 700 songs and wrote such enduring classics as “Ol' Man River” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”. Minor soiling, else very good condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
