(MGM, 1939) This set of eleven, 10 in. x 13 in. photographs are a unique and absolutely astonishing collection of three dimensional, hand-painted works of art that were originally created for the publicity of "Gone With the Wind". The still photography department at Selznick Studios carefully posed the film's stars and scenes and chose the most classic shots that were to be used in all of the film's publicity materials. The photographs were printed form original 8 in. x 10 in. color negatives, hand-painted to accentuate the detail and used as key photographs for further copy negatives that were sent around the world to be used as still photographs, key art for lobby cards and posters, and other publicity uses. This set was carefully kept by MGM studios still department and used for the original release of GWTW, and subsequent releases over the years. The quality of the pieces are so fine that the texture of the scenes and costumes seem to look three-dimensional. Any GWTW expert would agree that this collection of photographs is the finest set of unique artwork to exist anywhere in the world today. The set was archived into the Dore Freeman Collection in the 1970s where they were known as one of the most important pieces of GWTW memorabilia in the world and prized by Freeman over other items in his vast collection.
