This small bronze of Peter the Great is dated 15 February 1912 and celebrates the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Imperial Arms Foundry in Tula by Peter the Great in 1712. The base is a red-brown gutta percha-the same material used in photocases in the late Victorian period. Peter is depicted as a Vulcan, in this fascinating little bronze, which is a small version of a life-size statue in Tula erected in 1912. The bronze measures 4 1/8" in height and including the plinth, 7 1/2". It is in excellent condition, and is a true relic of Imperial Russia, dating just prior to WWI.
