Come On! 30 x 20 WWI Poster (Lot of 20) Come On!
Come On! (Lot of 20) 30" x 20" Artist: Walter Whitehead. Printed for the Third Liberty Loan Committee, this is one of the few images that depicts direct conflict between the sides! A wonderful image of a doughboy standing over a dead or wounded Hun soldier, with the message "Come On!" This simple laconic message urges Americans to keep giving and donating to the Liberty Loan drive. The origin of the term "Hun" is quite interesting -- it is derived from a speech made by the Kaiser; "No quarter will be given, no prisoners will be taken. Let all who fall into your hands be at your mercy. Just as the Huns a thousand years ago, under the leadership of Etzel (Attila) gained a reputation in virtue of which they still live in historical tradition, so may the name of Germany become known in such a manner in China that no Chinaman will ever again dare to look askance at a German." This stuck and became the general slang term for the Germans during WWI, though with less virtuous and brave connotations. A wonderful poster for any collection!

Condition: Posters 1-20 - Fine; light water stain damage, normal wear on edges from rolling/storage.
