Combination Wheelock battle axe in Germanic style with fully bone inlaid stock with pearl accents. The weapon measures 29-1/2” overall with a 17-1/4” barrel of approx 52 cal smooth bore. The axe head measuresapprox 6-1/2” from edge to top and approx 3-1/2” across the blade. The metal surfaces show some light to slightly heavy scattered erosion pinprick pitting. The trigger guard, blade and small parts are constructed offorged metal in 17th century style and the inlays are also of the correct style but are 19th century in our opinion, probably made by Spitzer or other Victorian era workman. The stock is in good condition showing a coupleof small repairs and most of its original inlays. A very interesting and decorative piece, the interior of the lock contains no chain or spring and this indicates 19th century also. A very decorative artifactthat is antique and about 150 years old. From an old New York collector’s estate. Est.;$2,500-$5,000.
