Comanche War Tomahawk w/ Fringed Drop c. 1870
This is an exceptional authentic Missouri War Axe Tomahawk attributed to the Comanche Native American Indians of North Texas. The heavy large war axe dates to circa 1870’s. The piece features an iron head measuring 9 inches in length that shows a weeping heart cutout out in the center of the blade. The war axe head is secured to the wood haft with an old hardened strip of fringe-cut Elk hide and brass tacks along the top. The haft has traces of old black paint and is adorned with a brass trade tack design along with an excellent long fringe-cut drop of pigment dyed Elk hide. This is truly a terrific Southern Plains War Axe with excellent art appeal. The piece is from the Ex-Collections of Ted & Lilly Jarvis along with the Hibben Collection. The tomahawk measures 22”L with an additional 16” fringe drop.
