Commercial American Eagle Safe & Loaded Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol, #497i, 9mm, 8'' barrel, fine-tuned adjustment Artillery sights, blue finish and straw small parts, factory checkered walnut grips, with one matching nickel-plated wood base magazine, as well as an additional similar magazine marked ''Germany''. Matching Commercial walnut stock also marked ''Germany'' is included. Pistol is marked with crown-''N'' proofmarks to upper frame and toggle; ''Germany'' is stamped thru the finish to left side frame flat forward of sideplate. Nicely cased in pre-war partitioned brown leatherette case with burgundy baize interior. Leather retailer's label inside lid marked ''A. Steinfeld Company, Tucson, Arizona''. Case additionally includes fine-tune adjustment tool, Commercial Luger combination tool, empty period Remington Kleenbore box for 9mm ammunition, late 1920s to early 1930s English edition of ''The Parabellum Automatic Pistol'' 41-page manual with foldouts, and barrel-handled Artillery type cleaning rod resides in case beneath the stock. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 98%+ original pre-war Commercial rust blue with small losses at muzzle, forward edges of frame, and slight losses to sideplate and to top of rear sight aperture, as well as thinning in actioning areas. Highpoints of niter-blue screws show minor thinning, with small losses and thinning to front strap and backstrap near highpoints of lug. Straw with minor losses to high edges. Shoulder stock is excellent. Action remains crisp, bore is bright. Interior of case shows dust and minor oil darkening commensurate with age. Leather maker's label is beginning to lift and can easily be re-affixed. A beautiful seldom-seen pre-war ensemble. Est.: $9,000-$14,000. (C&R)
