<B>Columbia Space Shuttle High Temperature Insulation Panel, </B></I> 23.5" x 13". Printed on the panel: "<I>V070-197108-001/ SN 001/ HI TEMP INSUL.</B></I>" Affixed is a 6" x 3.25" tag imprinted "<I>Unserviceable (Reparable)/ Tag - Materiel</B></I>" noted "<I>Insulator</B></I>," "<I>HDA for Scrapping</B></I>," and "<I>Removed from/ OV 102.</B></I>" OV 102, Orbiter Vehicle 102, was the <I>Columbia</B></I> space shuttle. Stamped is "<I>Oct 10 '97</B></I>" indicating the date this panel was removed from America's first space shuttle. The maiden voyage of "<I>Columbia</B></I>" was April 12-14, 1981. Its second flight, November 12-14, 1981, marked the first time a manned space vehicle had been reflown. After its 23rd flight (STS-94), July 1-17, 1997, this insulation panel was removed and replaced in time for its 24th flight (STS-87), November 19 - December 5, 1997. "<I>Columbia</B></I>:" was rolled out to the launching pad on October 29, 1997, 19 days after this High Temperature Insulation Panel was removed.
