Flown embroidered STS-1 mission patch, 4.25 x 4.75, carried on board the first flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia from April 12–14, 1981. Patch is affixed to a 13 x 10 certificate presented to Jesco H. von Puttkamer, “in recognition of your outstanding contribution to the manned space flight programs.” Lower right bears autopen signatures of astronauts John Young and Bob Crippen, as well as a gold NASA seal. Framed and in fine condition, with some light foxing to the mount. Von Puttkamer was a renowned aerospace engineer and senior NASA manager who worked alongside Wernher von Baun on the Apollo program and as a consultant to Gene Roddenberry for the first Star Trek film.
