Colt model 1911 Government model .45 auto, Canadian military purchased, blue finish, diamond checkered wood grips, serial number “C10911”. This pistol was shipped October 21, 1914 to H. W. Brown (Government of Canada), Ottawa, Canada in shipment of 1,000 like arms with factory letter. This Colt also shows original period arsenal stamp on rear of mainspring housing “48” “O.B.” “23”. These marking have been identified to 48th Overseas Battalion, pistol number 23. The 48th infantry battalion became the 3rd pioneer battalion and saw action in France during World War I. A large research folio along with factory letter adds to the documentation on this early World War I veteran. The pistol remains in very good plus original condition with approx. 75-85% original commercial quality blue finish, very good sharp original grips, some small scratches, and light erosion with normal aging and wear from carry in the military service. Some losses of finish at edges, muzzle, and gripping areas, but generally very good overall. Sharp markings, original “P” proofed barrel, correct small parts, two-tone lanyard-bottom magazine and completely original. Tight action with a very good bore and though carried and used, this veteran has been well cared for and is far above average. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
