Colt model 1911, .45 ACP caliber, semiautomatic pistol, US Property marked and inspected with factory experimental hammer as requested by Springfield Armory. Copies of original documents to Colt from CommandingOfficer, Springfield Armory concern the redesign of hammer to a wider or fatter cocking area. Also a diagram of design, other technical data is included with War Department letters requesting the hammer beforwarded to the School of Musketry at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and other documentation about design and testing of this hammer. The pistol remains in original near-fine condition with 75-85% original blue, thinning at high points and edges and gripping areas. Diamond checkered wood grips are very good plus to near fine. There is just a small loss of finish at the breech area of barrel and edges. Some minor scratches. The grips arevery good plus to near fine.
