Colt model 1902 Philippine model (erroneously described as Alaskan model by prewar collectors), .45 Colt caliber, 5-1/2” barrel, blued finish, hard-rubber grips, “U.S.” marked, inspected by John T. Thompson andRenaldo A. Carr. Serial #47553. Only approx. 5,000 of these were made for U.S. forces during the Philippine insurrection and were made to replace the .38 calibers which had a lack of stopping power. The enlarged triggerwas designed in order to increase the bearing surface of the double-action hammer, which would create a stronger and more sure fall in order to ignite the military primers. The large triggerguard was not designed forgloves, as was invented by my friend Theodore Dexter in his writings of the 1930’s to 60’s. The revolver retains 80-90% original bright blue finish, some minor erosion and pinprick pitting just starting with somemilitary type storage scratches.
