Colt model 1862 police (trapper’s model) factory 3-1/2” round barrel, fluted cylinder, varnish wood grips, serial number “4319”. This 62 police is one of approx. one dozen original specimens known to collectors and comes with a brass loading rod of the correct style. The pistol remains in good original condition showing untouched deep brown patina finish, with moderate erosion and surface pitting on barrel and cylinder, slight pitting on frame and hammer and a great untouched look overall. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-40% darkened original silver plate, the grips are good to very good, with75-85% varnish, some small marks, dings, and losses at the toes, but at least good overall. The rear trigger guard bow shows an “L” stamp, which has been viewed on other original trappers. There are three minute marks on the trigger guard over the trigger on the right side, which were purposely placed. The markings are slightly light but visible on the barrel and frame. One of the rarest of all Colts. With inventory sheet of the Charles DuPont collection purchased in 1995 from note Colt collector and expert, Steve Evans. Note: Rare brass rammer included. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
