Colt model 1861 Navy revolver, factory engraved in open grapevine motif. Blue and case hardened finish, checkered ivory grips, serial number “2443E”. The revolver remains in very good plus original condition, with approx. 50-70% original blue on barrel, starting to drift and tone. Some minor pitting and erosion, slightly heavier areas towards the muzzle, some nicks and mars, mostly in the area of the wedge port on the right side of barrel lug. Good barrel address, fairly sharp edges. The cylinder shows 30-60% blue turning brown, and approx. 70-80% light cylinder scene, readable engagement dates at front edge of cylinder, and just some scattered erosion and beginning pinprick pitting, an index line on the cylinder, some minor dents and normal aging. The frame, hammer, and lever show 20-40% case hardening, drifting to silvery grey with some rainbow colors lightly visible where protected. The backstrap and triggerguard show traces of original silver plate. The original checkered ivory grips fit impeccably and show a nice mellow patina. There is an age crack on the left grip which extends from top to bottom of grip, a few minor losses at the edges, and normal aging. All matching visible serial numbers. Tight action, excellent bore and some very bright blue beneath the barrel and fiery cased hardening near the joint on the loading lever. The Colt shows the desirable open grapevine pattern and hand cut Colt’s patent on left side of frame, and is in the style attributed to late factory work, contracted to Gustav Young. Formerly of the Charles DuPont collection. Est: $7,000 - $14,000
