Colt model 1860 Army revolver, .44 caliber percussion, fully and finely New York engraved Nimschke style, left side of barrel original “Frank I. O’Hanlon Portadon.” Period nickel plated, ivory grips serial number “15260”. This 1860 Army revolver was found in the 1960’s in a suburb of Dublin, Ireland by a well-known collector. Frank I. O‘Hanlon was a politician with an interesting career in Irish politics in the 19th century. The gun is beautifully period engraved in flowing scrolls with fully engraved cylinder, extra deluxe engraving on barrel, extending onto the top of the barrel between the sight and the address. The Colt shows approx. 85-95% original to the 19th century nickel finish, with a small amount of peeling and loss, mostly on the cylinder, and areas where nickel has lifted have gone to a dark patina that is uncleaned. The revolver shows 5 out of 6 safety pins on cylinder, and one original nipple is broken. There are a few minor marks on the edge of the wedge, and a couple of small marks on the barrel. The revolver is impeccably fitted with beautiful ivory grips, showing light patina and some considerable age cracking on the bottoms. All matching visible serial numbers, tight action, excellent interior. A very elaborately Nimschke-style engraved 1860 Army Colt from the Richard Engle collection, who displayed it for nearly two decades in his display dedicated to firearms engraved by L. D. Nimschke.
