Colt model 1855 Root, second variation, fully and finely Gustav Young style elaborately scroll engraved. Blue finish, walnut grips, serial number “6713” The revolver remains in original very good condition with approx. 50-70% original blue, evenly drifting and toning, to a natural patina, with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. There are a couple areas of slightly heavier pitting at the front of the muzzle and ramrod that are very small. The cylinder shows Colt’s pattern marking and approx. 20-30% light cylinder scene within a dark patina with some small dings and mars on the cylinder. The hammer shows strong cases of trace hardening going to patina. The varnish burl wood grips are good to very good with 50% varnish. The pistol is nicely deluxe engraved, probably by the hand of Gustav Young as it shows all of his characteristic trademarks. Young felt his engraving did the most to improve the appearance of the Root models. The action is good, the interior good, generally good overall. Along with original inventory from DuPont collection stating obtained as a gift from Eugene DuPont Jr., 1979, and originally encased. Case now separated. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
